Welcome to TiddlyWiki, a reusable non-linear personal web notebook. It's a unique wiki that people love using to keep ideas and information organised. It was originally created by JeremyRuston and is now a thriving open source project with a busy Community of independent developers.

TiddlyWiki is written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript to run on any reasonably modern browser without needing any ServerSide logic. It allows anyone to create personal SelfContained hypertext documents that can be published to a web server, sent by email, stored in a Dropbox or kept on a USB thumb drive to make a WikiOnAStick. Because it doesn't need to be installed and configured it makes a great GuerillaWiki.

This is revision 2.7.2 of TiddlyWiki Classic, and is published under an OpenSourceLicense. Incremental updates will occur every few months, depending upon the complexity of the changes being made. A comprehensive re-write of TiddlyWiki, called TiddlyWiki5, is now under active development. It is available for testing here: http://five.tiddlywiki.com

Importing tiddlers now uses "FileReader" API whenever available (currently supported by Chrome, Firefox 20+, etc.). This new HTML5-standard browser-based file I/O handling does not require any special privileges or security permissions to read contents of files that you interactively select from your local filesystem, and you can now successfully import tiddler from files that are outside of the current folder.
Note: this change only applies when you use the "browse" (or "select file") button to interactively choose a document from your local filesystem. If you manually enter (or paste) a local file:// URL into the import form (or if FileReader handling is not supported by your browser version), the existing browser-specific file I/O functions are used, which requires security permissions and/or other add-ons to permit reading of file contents; e.g. TiddlyFox (FireFox), TiddlySaver java applet (Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc.), or ActiveX (Internet Explorer).

When using IE10 (the current version of IE), special-case handling of embedded newlines in PRE-formatted blocks is no longer applied. This corrects a formatting/display error introduced by changes in IE10.
Note: this change only applies to IE10 and above; special handling is still applied to embedded newlines in IE9 and earlier so there should be no change to existing content when viewed on IE9 or earlier.

TiddlyFox is an extension for Mozilla Firefox that enables TiddlyWiki documents loaded from a file:/// URI to save changes to themselves.

The latest version of TiddlyFox can be installed from:

Known Problems with Upgrading TiddlyWiki

Versions of TiddlyWiki before and including 2.6.3 are known to have an issue with the upgrade function. To upgrade these versions you will need to download the latest version of an empty TiddlyWiki and import your content into it using the import function in the backstage.

Known Problems with Importing in TiddlyWiki

It is not possible to import from TiddlyWiki's on servers which are not CORS enabled. Although many popular sites, such as TiddlyTools, are currently CORS enabled, some are not. Fortunately this is fixable - webmasters can enable CORS on their sites by following the instructions here and if a website is not CORS enabled you can e-mail the owner to tell them the problem.
Some browsers will only allow you to import from other TiddlyWikis in the same directory as your TiddlyWiki. If you use Chrome you can enable this by modifying the Chrome shortcut to include the following parameter

--allow-file-access-from-files

In Opera you can enable this by entering the following into your address bar and ticking the checkbox.

opera:config#UserPrefs|AllowFileXMLHttpRequest

Note some browsers, do not support import / upgrade in any form.

When you click on the download button, the website will detect your browser and operating system, and trigger a download for either an empty TiddlyWiki file or, if you're running Safari or Opera, a zip file which also includes the TiddlySaver file. This is version 2.7.2 of TiddlyWiki.

There are several ways that you can have your TiddlyWiki data hosted online, making it easier to access and share your information.

TiddlySpot

TiddlySpot lets you put TiddlyWiki documents on the Web, and edit them directly in your browser. It doesn't yet offer full support for simultaneous editing by multiple users.

DropBox

Many people use DropBox to synchronise their TiddlyWiki documents to make them available on multiple computers. The DropBox iPhone/iPad application also permits read only access to TiddlyWiki documents. See A Personal Knowledgebase Solution: Tiddlywiki and Dropbox

TiddlyWeb & TiddlySpace

TiddlySpace is a full hosted service for TiddlyWiki that allows multiple people to edit the same wiki at the same time. It is particularly focussed on sharing tiddlers.

TiddlySpace is built on top of TiddlyWeb, a flexible architecture for putting tiddlers on the web.

TiddlyWiki Server for node.js (TWS)

TWS by Poul Staugaard is a simple node.js based serverside for TiddlyWiki.

GieWiki

GieWiki by Poul Staugaard is a new serverside for TiddlyWiki that focusses on making TiddlyWiki behave like a real wiki, with preview and versioning of tiddlers, any number of pages in any hierachy, an auto-generated sitemap, comments on tiddlers, fine-grained access control, image upload, recent changes etc. You can see a default instance at http://giewiki.appspot.com/.

ccTiddly

ccTiddly is an older serverside written in PHP to use MySQL for storage. It is no longer under active development, but remains a popular choice for basic TiddlyWiki hosting needs.

TiddlyCouch is an experimental integration of TiddlyWiki with CouchDB.

Safari

Safari can SaveChanges using the TiddlySaver Java applet.

There are still some issues with Safari:

Permalinks with Unicode characters in them (like this one) don't work properly
When using Safari 6.0 on OSX "Mountain Lion", TiddlySaver.jar does not get loaded properly. To work around this, go to "preferences / advanced" and check "Show Develop menu in menu bar", then mark "Disable local file restrictions"

TiddlyWiki is a complete wiki in a single HTML file. It contains the entire text of the wiki, and all the JavaScript, CSS and HTML machinery to be able to display it, and let you edit it or search it - without needing a server. Of course, there are also some useful ServerSide adaptations out there.

Unlike most wikis, TiddlyWiki isn't about group collaboration; it is a wiki in the sense of elevating linking be a part of the punctuation of writing. You can easily publish a TiddlyWiki you have created by placing the single file on a web server (for instance the homepage hosting provided by many ISPs). If you need full group collaboration features, there are several HostedOptions to choose from.

TiddlyWiki was originally created by JeremyRuston and is now a thriving open source project with a busy Community of independent developers. Osmosoft, part of BT, is the leading contributor to the project.

luakit is a powerful customizable web browser for Linux. In their own words:

To create a chronological list of recent edits:

All the parameters are optional:

field determines which field to use as the basis for the list. It is usually modified or created
maxlength is an integer that limits the maximum number of tiddlers to include in the list
dateformat is a date format string that determines the format of the dates
template names the tiddler to use as the template for list entries
- The default template is <<view title link>> to cause the display of the tiddler title as a link to the tiddler
groupTemplate names the tiddler to use as the template for grouping entries in the list
- The default groupTemplate is <<view %0 date '%1'>>, where %0 is the name of the field being displayed and %1 is the dateformat selected in the third argument
filter is a tiddler filter that is used to filter the tiddlers that appear in the list
