A hard transclusion is a transclusion that can be detected by a superficial examination of WikiText.

A transclusion is soft if it is:

• contained in text trancluded from elsewhere
• supplied via a macro, procedure or variable
• generated by a transclude widget whose $tiddler attribute is a transclusion, macro or variable

This concept is analogous to Hard and Soft Links.
